Animo Sano Psychiatry team is growing. We’re excited to welcome our new LCSW, Stephanie Barnhart! We had the pleasure to talk with Stephanie about her life and experience and learn more about what motivated her to become a part of our team. Here’s Stephanie’s inspiring story.
1. What inspired you to pursue a career in mental healthcare and what brought you to Animo Sano Psychiatry?
As a high school and college student, I worked in a nursing home. I enjoyed working with the residents and wanted to learn more about the specific challenges they and their loved ones faced. I came to Animo Sano at the request of a former supervisee.
2. What motivates you?
I love figuring out the puzzle of clients’ lives and helping them make connections between the past and present.
3. Tell us something about you that would surprise us?
I still have a baby tooth at the ripe old age of 52.
4. What words of wisdom do you live by?
When I was a girl scout, our troop motto was “We’ll try anything once.” I believe it’s important to always try new things because you never know what you’ll like or what you might be good at unless you take a risk to discover it.
5. Share a recent “proud moment.”
I recently took a jewelry-making class and created a beautiful silver bracelet incorporating flowers that have special symbolism for me.
6. Share any volunteer or charity efforts you’re involved in.
I volunteer with Stride Ahead, which is a local organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy to the community.
