1. What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare and what brought you to your specific field in psychiatry?

From an early age, I’ve always been intrigued by the nuances of human perception and the vast spectrum of reality as experienced by different individuals. Diving into numerous pop-psychology books, I began a journey of introspection and self-improvement, constantly pushing the boundaries of my own understanding. As I unearthed invaluable insights and strategies, the drive to share these revelations with others only grew stronger. This personal quest, coupled with a profound passion for science, naturally steered me towards a career in medicine. Psychiatry, with its deep exploration of the human psyche, emerged as the ideal confluence of my interests.

While my professional journey delves deep into the realms of the mind, I also embarked on a different kind of debate – one set on stages and against competitors. I used to engage in competitive parliamentary debating, a rigorous and thrilling endeavor that honed my analytical and communicative skills. This experience paved the way for the creation of my podcast, “Psych Debates”. Available at Psychdebates.com, the podcast presents conceptual dialogues with world experts on varied topics in mental health, aiming to shed light on the intricacies of our mental well-being.

1. What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare and what brought you to your specific field of psychiatry?

I was a very anxious and introverted kid, and that fostered an introspectiveness and fascination with the human psyche and its underbelly. Working through and figuring out my own “stuff” catapulted me into wanting to use my experiences to benefit others. Psychiatry appealed to me because it seemed to marry art and science; the art of perception and the underpinnings of neuroscience. This amalgamation of “right” and “left” brain strongly resonated with me.

2. Tell us something about you that would surprise us?

I have a habit of starting (and not finishing!) crochet projects — I currently have about 15 “works in progress” and may or may not have just started a new one..
