Jose Pena, MD serves as a supervising psychiatrist at Animo Sano Psychiatry, where he provides oversight and guidance to behavioral health providers to ensure the delivery of exceptional patient care.
Dr. José Peña is a board-certified addiction and family medicine physician serving as a collaborating physician at Animo Sano Psychiatry, where he assists in oversight and guidance in Animo Sano Psychiatry’s commitment to accessible, innovative, and quality patient care.
José received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. After medical school, he completed training in Waco, Texas, performing full-spectrum family medicine for underserved patients with a particular focus on maternal health and substance use disorder (SUD). After becoming faculty for the training residency, his interest and passion for behavioral health expanded beyond just treatment for SUD, acknowledging that access to collaborative and quality psychiatric care is often limited. He currently focuses on behavioral health in Colorado, working in an acute crisis center along with serving as adjunct faculty for the University of Colorado School of Medicine and a local Family Medicine Residency. In his free time, José enjoys fly fishing and hiking with his wife and two children.
