Samuel Stinson
About Samuel Stinson
Dr. Samuel Stinson, MD is a psychiatrist dedicated to addressing the unique mental health challenges of rural communities. Having grown up in rural North Carolina, he has witnessed firsthand the limited access to mental health care in these areas. His work focuses on closing these gaps by providing accessible and comprehensive psychiatric care where it is most needed.
Dr. Stinson specializes in Rural Psychiatry and is well-versed in treating a broad range of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depressive disorders, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and women’s mood disorders, such as perinatal psychiatry. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he served as Chief Resident of Education. He further honed his expertise as teaching faculty at Cone Psychiatry and as the primary perinatal psychiatrist at Cone Health.
Dr. Stinson takes a holistic approach to patient care, emphasizing the integration of physical health, including sleep hygiene, nutrition, and mobility, into psychiatric treatment. In addition to evidence-based medication management, he employs psychodynamic psychotherapy techniques and works to reduce unnecessary medications. Dr. Stinson is dedicated to fostering a thorough understanding of each patient’s unique needs and providing compassionate, individualized care to support their journey toward improved mental health.
