About Katerina Hatzigeorgiou
From a young age the importance of valuing our mental health has been a priority to me. It can affect our physical health, our relationships and our decision making, along with our quality of life. Learning to nurture this in myself, and opening the floor to genuine conversations about our emotions has shown such power and healing in human connection.
With almost 10 years of experience working in the mental health field, I don’t just consider what I do as a job, but something that I truly am passionate about. I provide a safe nonjudgmental space to navigate emotions, history, diagnoses and treatment options that patients feel comfortable with and at a pace they feel comfortable with. I also consider providing education on all the above very important so patients feel a part of their treatment plan.
As a board certified physician associate, I have experience in a wide range of mental health diagnoses, working for almost five years in addiction medicine in New York City and five years in general psychiatry with both pediatric and adult patients in the state of North Carolina. I am passionate about delivering the best care that I can, ensuring that it is personalized and collaborative.
Creating and achieving goals together that can lead to an improvement in quality of life, development of coping tools and a focus on long term growth is what I strive for with my patients. From a young age I’ve also valued education in this field and reducing the stigma of mental health. Focusing on always learning and growing with psychiatry, and then sharing this with my patients has enhanced my approach to patient care.
Growing up in Queens, New York and obtaining my BA in Natural Sciences at Fordham College at Lincoln Center, I was able to nurture my love for the arts and sciences at the heart of NYC. And being able to be a part of so many different communities emphasized the power of human connection at its core. Prior to completing my MS in PA studies with Rutgers University in New Jersey, I worked for several years in the field of physical therapy. Learning about the anatomy of the human body and the importance of exercise, nutrition and lifestyle is something I carry with me to this day and incorporate into practice. The connection between physical health and emotional health is undeniable, which is why taking a holistic approach to wellness is so important to me.
